VO Japan, Laos and Cambodia to celebrate the nation’s 1st Youth Music Festival 2014
INTRO:
Up-and-coming local musicians have been joined by more experienced
fellows from Japan and Cambodia to celebrate the nation’s 1st Youth
Music Festival 2014.
STORY: Bringing expertise from abroad to share,
the event seeks to promote the development of skills in performing
modern and classical music in Laos.
The event was held at the Lao
Japan-Budo
Centre on Sunday and sponsored and supported by the Japan
Junior Orchestra, the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR, Champa Junior
Orchestra, Children’s Cultural Centre and Hakkeo School for Children.
The
event commenced with performances from junior artists of Children
Cultural Centre with a traditional music show as well as dances
Ouayphone and Champa Meuanglao. The crowd then warmed up to the strains
“Let it go” by students of Hakkeo International School. Ensemble
performances from the artists from Laos, Cambodia and Japan in the song
Champa Meuang Lao and the song Rose Bud brought cheers from the
audience.
Showcase performances by both the Angkor Youth Orchestra and the Japan Junior Orchestra followed.
The
Children Cultural Centre, which falls under the auspices of the
Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, provides space and support
for junior musicians to practice. The Japan (Gunma) Junior Orchestra
Association was founded in April 29, 1983 in Japan’s Gunma prefecture.
Angkor Youth Orchestra (ANYO) was established on April 29, 2006 in Phnom
Penh. The orchestras will reunite in Thailand next year for a showcase
performance to promote musical development as well as cultural exchange.
